Gideon is a database which specialises in infectious diseases, microbiology and toxicology.
It's designed to function as a diagnostic tool, and has many attractive search options.
In Infectious Diseases, under the Diagnosis tab, you can feed in the details of the case (patient's geographical location, age, symptoms, exposure to environmental factors, etc) and it generates a list of possible diagnoses based on probability. You can then look up the record for the diseases to find details such as an overview, distribution, clinical references and the like.
Under the Diseases tab you can narrow down to likely diseases base on fingerprint (agent, vector, vehicle, etc), search through synonyms or look at graphs based on country or disease. The Travel tab gives you an overview of infectious diseases in a particular region, with the information based on the CDC's Yellow book. There are also tabs for searching for specific drugs or vaccines, allowing you to narrow your search according to toxicity or trade names (among other options).
The Microbiology section gives you the ability to search for bacteria, mycobacteria and yeasts either by your options using the results of phenotypic tests. Then you can go straight to the record for the most likely results to read an over view or the phenotype details. You can also look up particular bacteria/mycobacteria/yeast names to find the phenotype.
Under Toxicology you can also use a diagnostic tool with options such as nature of onset, latency, occupation factors and the like. It also offers tabs for identifying toxins and agents using options such as fingerprints.
All in all, if you are studying health sciences, you should probably take a look at this database.
