Welcome to "O" Week

Welcome to our new students commencing postgraduate studies this semester, and welcome back to those of you continuing your courses. I hope you all enjoyed the summer break and are refreshed and refuelled for this semester.

Those of you enrolled in subjects by now should have received your study packages. Those students still going through the enrolment process will have their packages dispatched as soon as your subject enrolment is activated.

I'm currently working on loading up the LearnJCU sites and hope to have these all complete by the end of this week. You will notice some new features and style layout, particularly the calendar and early warning systems, which I hope you will find useful. I will load up all important dates and individual subject assessment dates so that you can keep on track. Remember to login to LearnJCU regularly to check announcements, calendars and new subject materials added throughout the study period.

There are a number of activities planned for "O" week, which is directed more towards on-campus undergraduate students, however postgraduate students may also choose to try Orientation Online which is particularly useful for external students who are unable to attend the on-campus orientation activities.

One important reminder - it is now University policy that all email correspondence between students and JCU faculty must be made from your JCU Email account (which identifies you as a JCU student). All JCU students have a JCU email account activated on enrolment and it is important you check your JCU email account at least twice a week. Official correspondence from JCU will be sent to you by email. If you don’t check your email, you could miss important information. We are not able to respond to any requests from students made from personal emails (such as hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc.). Please keep this in mind, as it will save us both a lot of time and patience!

Please note that my office hours have changed this year - my new hours are Monday-Thursday 9am-4.30pm. On Fridays, if the matter is urgent, please contact your Subject Coordinator for subject enquiries, or the Faculty Office for enrolment enquiries.

I hope you enjoy your studies this semester and I look forward to being of assistance to you throughout the year.

Regards,
Judy O'Brien
Postgraduate Studies Officer.
